"They humble me and they inspire me and that's why I created my foundation to give back to them and to do what I can to raise awareness," Sinise told WCBS 880. "It's probably not going to get less dangerous out there and our military is going to get called...I benefit from what they do for our country and so I just want to use what I have to try to give back."
Sinise will also co-host the National Memorial Day Concert, along with actor Joe Mantegna, in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.
"The National Memorial Day Concert is to make sure that our fellow citizens remember what Memorial Day is all about and that's to pay tribute to the sacrifices that have been made over the years," Sinise said.
Fleet Week 2015 officially kicked off Wednesday with a parade of ships down the Hudson River. It featured nine military ships — three Navy, two Coast Guard, and four Naval Academy — to celebrate members of the U.S. Military Sea Services.
Fleet Week runs through next Tuesday.
Ships are open for public tours all week.
