First Three Kings Day Parade Held In Inwood
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Music and animals paraded in Upper Manhattan Sunday to celebrate Three Kings' Day.
The parade, sponsored by El Museo de Barrio, was held in Inwood Sunday morning. New York City Councilman Robert Jackson (D-7th), state Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D-New York), and Fernando Mateo of Hispanics Across America dressed as the Three Kings.
The celebration is a Hispanic tradition, marking the day Christians believe the three wise men paid tribute to the Baby Jesus.
"Three Kings Day, from a historical perspective, is where you give children gifts after they lay out their little notes they want in celebration of Three Kings Day," Jackson said.
Sunday marked the first Three Kings Day parade in Inwood. Organizers hope to make it an annual event.
Another parade was held on Friday at 106th Street and Park Avenue in East Harlem.
