First Lady Chirlane McCray To Return To Italy For NYU Conference
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City first lady Chirlane McCray is returning to Italy, less than a year after she visited with her husband, Mayor Bill de Blasio, and their son and daughter.
McCray is set to leave Wednesday for four nights in Florence.
She will be appearing at a conference sponsored by New York University on black images in art.
NYU is paying for the trip. The university is co-sponsoring the event along with Harvard University, the Ford Foundation and the Studio Museum of Harlem.
Her husband, Mayor Bill de Blasio, is not expected to join her on the trip.
Last summer, de Blasio, McCray and their two children vacationed in Italy for a week. While there, de Blasio met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican secretary of state, to discuss approaches to migration.
During this visit, McCray will also tour a mental health center for children.
McCray has begun spending more time in the spotlight in recent weeks, especially on mental health issues.
