Firefighters Breach Wall In NYC Elevator Rescue
NEW YORK (AP) -- Firefighters say they've had to break through a wall to rescue a person trapped in an elevator in the skyscraper that houses The New York Times.
The Fire Department says an elevator got stuck around 10:20 a.m. Friday near the 11th floor of the 52-story building. The elevator didn't normally stop at that floor, so firefighters breached a wall to get to it. It's common for elevators to serve some floors and skip others in New York high-rises.
The Fire Department says the process took about an hour, and the person wasn't hurt.
Representatives for the Times and for building owner Forest City Ratner Cos. didn't immediately answer telephone and email messages.
A deadly accident in a different Manhattan office building earlier this month has heightened attention to elevator safety.
