Two-Alarm Fire Breaks Out At Times Square Pub
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire Saturday in a building near New York's Times Square that's home to a popular Irish pub.
The fire department says the blaze broke out around 5:10 p.m. Saturday in the ceiling duct-work of a three-story building where Connolly's Pub and Restaurant is located.
"We got a blow back through the duct system that the guys in the kitchen witnessed," the restaurant's manager, Patrick O'Sullivan, told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten. "They couldn't contain it."
The fire eventually spread to the roof of the building at 45th Street and 6th Avenue. It went to a second alarm around 5:30 p.m.
With just a garden hose and a couple of fire extinguishers, O'Sullivan said he tried to contain the fire until firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported.
As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, broken glass littered the sidewalk from the pub's broken windows.

Connolly's has three locations in the area and advertises itself as a haven for Notre Dame football fans.
The Fighting Irish were at halftime of their home game against Rice when the fire broke out.
O'Sullivan said he apologized to the customers and said the pub would be up and running "in no time."
