Firefighters Battle Enormous Blaze In Middle Village
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Firefighters were battling a huge fire in Queens on Monday night.
Huge flames poured out of row homes on 68th Avenue in Middle Village and quickly engulfed at least five neighboring homes, CBS 2 reported.
The fire, which grew to five alarms, forced residents to evacuate, 1010 WINS reported.
"My husband came running from upstairs, ran outside, then came back in and said 'out of the house, there's a fire,' and we grabbed the dog, one cat, the other cat got away from us. We just grabbed each other in our pajamas. Ready for bed almost," one neighbor said.
At least three of the buildings had been checked and cleared for victims. A mayday was issued for a missing firefighter, but he was accounted for.
Ten firefighters were treated for minor injuries. The fire was under control as of 11:20 p.m. but remained under investigation, officials said. The Red Cross was assisting displaced residents.
