Four Firefighters Hurt Battling Blaze In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a four alarm fire in the Bronx.
The flames broke out just after 6 a.m. Monday on East 184th Street in Fordham Heights.
"We had substantial fire on arrival, it extended to the two buildings on the left and we had a fairly substantial collapse in the rear of the fire building," said Asst. Fire Chief Edward Bagott. "Firefighters forced entry into the first floor, they were met with fire right inside the foyer area and it extended up to the second floor and into the attic."
Firefighters were pulled out of the building as a safety precaution and were forced to fight the flames from the outside. One building was gutted while two others were damaged.
The building where the fire started was empty and had recently been sold.
No civilians were hurt. It's still unclear what sparked the blaze.
