Fire Sweeps Through Apartment House In Yonkers
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in Yonkers Wednesday afternoon.
As Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the first alarm was called in to the fire department around 4:30 p.m. for the blaze at 39 Locust Hill Ave. in Yonkers. The response was quickly raised to a second alarm, Biermann reported.
Most of the flames were seen on the second and third floors of the complex. Biermann reported the structure looked like an old wooden-construction building typical of Yonkers architecture, which had been converted into a multi-unit apartment home.
The flames started in the front of the building and burned back toward the rear, Biermann reported.
There were no injuries reported, and no surrounding buildings were affected.
Late Wednesday evening, the local Office of Emergency Management was at the scene, and the American Red Cross was to assist 13 residents who were displaced.
