Fire Spreads To 2 Homes In Elizabeth, N.J.
ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- About a dozen people were displaced Sunday afternoon to battle a blaze at a home in Elizabeth, N.J.
The fire broke out around 3 p.m. and was raised to four alarms, Elizabeth fire officials said.
The blaze charred the top floor to the house at 705 Jefferson Ave., and spread to the attic of the house next door.
Due to the high winds, firefighters were confronted with flames blowing back at them "like a blow torch," Elizabeth Fire Chief Thomas McNamara told 1010 WINS. He had to call for outside help.
Newark and Union County firefighters assisted in battling the blaze.
Two people were had to be treated for smoke inhalation, officials said. A handful of firefighters also suffered minor scrapes and cuts.
The fire was under control by Sunday evening. The cause remained under investigation.
