Fire Rages At Recycling Plant In Long Branch, N.J.
LONG BRANCH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm fire was raging Wednesday afternoon in the town recycling plant in Long Branch, N.J.
The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at the town recycling center at 378 Atlantic Ave. in Long Branch, officials told CBS 2.
As of 4:30 p.m., the fire had been raised to three alarms and was still burning.
The town Department of Public works lot contains wood and other flammable debris, officials said.
Multiple hose streams were aimed at the flames, which seemed to be consuming giant piles of mulch, CBS 2's Joe Biermann reported.
Special foam trucks were brought in, spreading foam on the flames to dampen them. Bulldozers were also brought in to break up the burning debris.
There are homes surrounding the area, but the fire department set up a sufficient perimeter around the recycling plant fire and brought in fire trucks to protect the homes, Biermann reported.
There were no reports of injuries or evacuations.
