Subway Service In Coney Island Partially Restored After Signal Room Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Subway service, spotty for much of Saturday in Coney Island, is partially restored.

Service on the F subway line has resumed in Coney Island after workers repaired tracks damaged by a signal room fire that broke out near the West 8th Street station Friday.

Due to the fire, service on the F and Q lines was suspended to and from the Stillwell Avenue-Coney Island terminal. The Q line was still out of commission at the West 8th Street station as of Saturday evening.

Full service on the Q was expected to be restored late Saturday night.

MTA spokeswoman Deirdre Parker said the fire was out by 9 p.m. but it was too late for repair workers to get up on the elevated tracks. Workers are set to start repairs at daybreak Saturday, but it's unclear when service will be restored.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
