Female Baringo Giraffe Born At Bronx Zoo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Bronx Zoo has welcome a new giraffe.
The female Baringo giraffe was already 6-feet-tall and weighed in at more than 100 pounds when she was born earlier this month.
As an adult, she could eventually grow as tall as 16 feet and tip the scales at 2,600 pounds.
The new giraffe does not have a name yet. She is expected to make her debut at the zoo's African Plains exhibit in about a week.
Last September, the zoo welcomed James Marjani, the first Baringo giraffe calf to be born at the zoo since 2009.
All of the zoo's giraffes are named in memory of Mr. and Mrs. James Carter, the benefactors of the Carter Giraffe Building.
