FEMA To Begin Providing Mobile Homes For Jersey Shore Residents

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) was left fuming when mobile homes had not yet been included in the plan for the Jersey Shore.

But as WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, Pallone quickly phoned the head of the agency, Craig Fugate, for a change of course.

"So now, you know, the FEMA director is recognizing the need and saying that the trailers will be an option," Pallone said.

The process of talking to towns will begin on Monday to pinpoint how many trailers are needed and where to put them. Pallone said it comes as housing options start to dwindle for thousands of displaced residents.

"You know, they're not going to be able to stay in a motel, they're not going to get a voucher, or their relatives or their friends are going to get tired of them," Pallone said.

The congressman said he wants the trailers placed as close as possible to the affected homes.
