FEMA Mobile Centers Opening In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Three FEMA mobile centers are opening this week in Connecticut to help homeowners and businesses affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The first FEMA office opened Monday in Fairfield. State officials said more than $2 million has been set aside to assist Connecticut homeowners who suffered damage during the storm.

"While we are encouraging residents to register with FEMA either online or via telephone, these mobile centers are another resource for individuals looking to access assistance," said Gov. Dannel Malloy in a statement.

Scott Devico, a Connecticut emergency management spokesman, said financial recovery is not limited to homeowners.

"Housing assistance, which can include short-term rental assistance and home repair, clocks also such things as medical and dental expenses and lost personal possessions," he said.

Devico said applicants must bring a photo ID, receipts for any repair work and photos of the damage.
