FEMA Extends Deadline For Conn. Residents Impacted By Superstorm Sandy
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Connecticut residents who were affected by superstorm Sandy will have nearly an extra month to apply for federal disaster relief, Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Sunday.
Malloy announced FEMA has extended the deadline to register for aid to Jan. 28. The previous deadline was Dec. 31.
More than $20 million in federal aid has already been approved for Conn. residents and Malloy said the extension will help ensure that all residents and businesses that suffered damage in the storm will have enough time to get their applications in.
About 11,400 residents in storm-affected areas have already registered for federal assistance, Malloy's office announced.
The governor said residents affected by Sandy are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting the recovery center by either calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or through www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
