Fee Now Applies For Hudson River Ferry Service From Midtown To Downtown
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - After a week of free rides, commuters will have to pay as of Tuesday for the new Hudson River ferry service from Midtown to Downtown.
The ferry departs from 44th Street and the West Side Highway and lands at the World Financial Center. The roundtrip fare is $8.
Helena Durst, president of New York Water Taxi, believes the ferry will need 50 riders for each of its three trips every morning and evening for the service to be viable.
Durst hopes some sponsors will help pay for the rides, as the ferry to Ikea does.
"Goldman Sachs has provided sponsorship for their own employees," Durst told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.
Fee In Effect For New Hudson River Ferry Service
Durst believes residents of the "substantial amount of residential units" being built on the city's far west side will appreciate the service.
"It's also cheaper than a cab, and a little nicer in the summer than being underground," Durst added.
