Feds Investigating 2 New Reports Of Laser-Pointing Incidents At Newark Airport
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Federal officials are investigating two more reports of laser-pointing incidents at Newark Liberty International Airport over the weekend.
Two flights reported lasers were shone at them around 9 p.m. Sunday night, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Both an ExpressJet flight and a Shuttle America flight coming into the airport for landing reported the red lasers about 20 miles southwest of the airport. No injuries were reported.
Lasers can temporarily blind a pilot and are considered a problem at airports across the nation.
Just last year, Newark airport had 28 reported incidents, but only three have been reported this year through February.
LaGuardia Airport, however, has 21 reported incidents just in the first two months of 2015. Forty-one were reported at the airport through all of 2014.
Last year the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
