Driver Struck And Killed After Fender Bender On FDR Drive
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A fender bender on the Upper East Side turned fatal early Saturday morning.
Police said a Honda Civic side-swiped a Jeep SUV around 5:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive near Exit 14-East 96th Street.
The driver of the first car, identified as 50-year-old Heward Velez, of New Jersey, initially exited his vehicle to exchange information with the other driver, but then fled on foot across the center median, police said.
Police said he crossed into the southbound lane where he was struck and killed by a Cadillac SUV.
The Jeep and Cadillac drivers stayed on the scene, and no charges have been filed.
