FDNY: 12 injured, including 2 seriously, in house fire in Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- Twelve people were hurt in a fire in a multi-family home in East New York, Brooklyn, on Monday night, FDNY officials said.
CBS New York heard from a mother who said her family escaped just in time.
The flames spread through the first floor of the home on Sheffield Avenue. That mother said she returned home to discover the flames, before helping her family get out.
"When I seen it, I went to the side of the house and I said, 'Katie!' I called my daughter and I called my husband, 'Jump out the window. The house is on fire!' I jumped over the gate, and we were just grabbing, catching people," the mother said.
Two of the 12 victims have serious but non-life threatening injuries, fire officials said.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
