FBI: Robbers Attacked Armored Truck Guard In Broad Daylight In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police and the FBI were searching Friday evening for three men who robbed an armored truck guard at gunpoint at a bank in Queens in broad daylight.

Just after noon Friday, a GardaWorld armored truck arrived at the HSBC Bank branch at 82-57 Broadway in Elmhurst, Queens. One of the armed guards went into the bank to make a regularly-scheduled pickup of deposits at the bank, the FBI said.

As the guard was about to leave, he was attacked by the three men at gunpoint in the ATM lobby, the FBI said. The suspects took cash from the guard and sprayed him with a disabling chemical, the FBI said.

The suspects ran off west on Broadway in Queens. They were described as Asian or Hispanic and dressed in heavy winter clothes, the FBI said.

The suspects may have used a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun in the robbery.

The men may later have gotten into a navy blue or black Ford Explorer, described by witnesses as dirty from the winter elements and missing a front license plate, the FBI said.

The FBI and the NYPD have asked the public to help identify the suspects. GardaWorld has offered a reward of up to $50,000 in the case.

Anyone with information was asked to call the FBI at (212) 384-1000.

Meanwhile, the FBI said the suspects should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
