FBI, NYPD Seek 'Taxi Cab Bandit' Suspected In 6 Bank Robberies In New York
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The FBI and NYPD are on the hunt for what they call a serial robber who got away in a yellow cab.
Authorities said the suspect's most recent heist took place Wednesday at the Santander Bank at 169 Seventh Ave., near 20th Street.
The suspect walked into the bank around 11:35 a.m. and passed a note to the teller that indicated he had a gun and demanded cash, police said.
The teller complied and the suspect took off behind the wheel of a New York City taxi with an undisclosed amount of money.
Authorities said this is the sixth bank the same suspect is believed to have hit. They said they believe him to be armed and dangerous.
A reward is being offered in exchange for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the suspect.
The suspect is described by authorities as a black male, about 6'2" and 200 pounds, with a mustache. He was last seen wearing jeans, a white hat with rhinestones and an eagle design, and a white button-down shirt with an eagle design on the front left pocket. He is estimated to be in his late 30s, police said.
