FBI: Man Arrested For Allegedly Selling Pipe Bombs In Bronx Parking Lot
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested a man for allegedly selling eight makeshift pipe bombs to undercover police officers in a Bronx parking lot, FBI officials said.
The suspect, from Bridgeport, Conn., was allegedly selling the devices from his car parked at a Co-Op city shopping center Thursday afternoon.
A block in Bridgeport was closed as investigators searched his apartment overnight. A state police bomb technician suffered a minor injury when a substance ignited during the search, Reiner said. He would not comment on whether anything was found in the residence.
Sources tell 1010 WINS the devices appear to be homemade explosive devices possibly made from high-end fireworks.
There was no evidence of domestic or international terrorism ties or any radical ideology associated with the investigation, said William Reiner, FBI spokesman in Connecticut.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was expected to be in federal court in New York on Friday.
