FBI Agents Raid Properties Belonging To Ex-Jets Lineman Jason Fabini, Brother
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (CBSNewYork/AP) — FBI agents have raided properties in northeast Indiana belonging to former New York Jets lineman Jason Fabini and his brother as part of an ongoing investigation by a task force that focuses on combatting illegal drugs and violent crime.
Federal, state and local agents searched a Fort Wayne property belonging to Jason Fabini and a home owned by his brother, Michael Fabini.
Investigators searched an outbuilding at Jason Fabini's property at 8701 Wheelock Road. He denied any criminal activity in a statement released through his attorneys.
"I am not the target of the investigation and I was not involved in any criminal activity," Fabini said. "I have not been charged, nor do I expect to be charged with a crime."
FBI Special Agent David Crawford will only say that there was "investigative activity" at those addresses and five others in the Fort Wayne area.
Crawford says the raids were conducted by the Safe Streets Task Force, whose mission is to combat gun, gang and drug-related crime. He says the task force also investigates other types of crime.
Fabini was drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He remained with the Jets until 2006 and closed out his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.
