1 Person Killed In Mount Vernon Fire
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One person has been killed by a fire in Westchester County, fire officials say.
The blaze broke out around 6:45 p.m. Saturday in a four-story apartment building on South Columbus Avenue in Mount Vernon.
"While executing our primary search, we recovered a body near the front door of the apartment. Right now, our investigators are working to identify the body," Mount Vernon Fire Chief Al Everette said.
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas said the victim appeared to be a man in his early 70s.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
