Man Killed In Huntington Station Blaze
HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been killed and his sister injured in a fire at their home on Long Island.
Police tape was seen outside the charred remains of the house on Dawnson Street in Huntington Station Friday morning.
The blaze broke out around 9 p.m. Thursday as 76-year-old Henry Lindemann and his sister, 68-year-old Diane Lindemann, were inside, police said.
Samantha Moodie happened to be walking by the home, when she heard panicked yells from inside.
"I heard Diane screaming, she was like, fire fire," Moodie told CBS2's Janelle Burrell.
Moodie says she ran to the front foor of Lindemann's home, frantically searching for the woman.
"I went in and I was like 'Oh my God, Diane you have to get out of the house'" Moodie said. "And all she kept saying was Henry... Henry's in there."
Moodie says she managed to help Diane Lindemann escape. She says she ran back to the home to try to find Henry Lindemann after calling 911, but was forced to turn around due to the intensity of the blaze.
"There was so much smoke and just flames just started coming out of everywhere," Moodie said.
Diane Lindemann was able to escape the fire, but investigators said firefighters were forced to enter the burning house and locate Henry Lindemann to get him out. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
"I just feel so bad that he died," Moodie said. "They did everything they could for each other. This is going to be really hard for her [Diane.]"
Diane Lindemann was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but police do not believe it is suspicious.
