Head-On Collision On Long Island Expressway Leaves One Dead

JERICHO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - An accident occurred on the westbound Long Island Expressway just before Route 106/107 in Jericho at about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday morning.

It was a head-on collision between a black Honda and a gray Mercedes, and it was the Honda that was going the wrong way. The car entered at Exit 41 North going eastbound.

"The correct-way driver is in stable but guarded condition due to the severity of the impact," Fitzpatrick told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

Suffice it to say, the impact was incredible. After they hit, Fitzpatrick said that both cars continued westbound for about 150 feet.

There is no word yet on whether this is a drunk-driving case, or what led the driver to enter the expressway going the wrong way.
