Police Called To LI College Over Potential Weapon Sighting; Was Actually Light Saber
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police were called to SUNY Farmingdale Wednesday morning after receiving a call about a man possibly handling a weapon in a vehicle parked in a campus parking lot.
Police received a 911 call at around 9:40 a.m. from a caller who reported seeing what they believed to be a man handling a weapon, sources said.
Students and staff members at Farmingdale State College on Long Island were told to shelter in place Wednesday while police investigated. Police then located the man who was allegedly handling the supposed weapon and confirmed that the object he had in his car was in fact, a light saber, CBS2 reported.
College spokeswoman Kathryn Coley says the rifle was actually a "Star Wars'' toy.
No one was arrested and there were no reported injuries, sources said.
