Family Screams For Justice After Father Beaten, Stabbed To Death In Yonkers Deli
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A father is dead after a fatal fight at a deli. Now, the store's owner and a worker are under arrest, and the father's family is heartbroken and angry.
Shay Adams, 24, got emotional and upset Tuesday about the death of her father, 45-year-old Rodney Jackson. He died Sunday night after getting beat up with a baseball bat and stabbed in the buttock, police told CBS 2's John Schriffen.
"I just want justice to be served. I'm hurt and I couldn't save him," Adams said.
"Rodney was a good man. Rodney never bothered no one," a family friend added.
It happened at Luz Deli on South Broadway after Jackson got into an altercation with the owner, 43-year-old Kevin Ortiz, police said. Ortiz allegedly picked up a bat and began fighting with the victim. That's when, according to police, 37-year-old employee Francisco Vasquez got a knife.
Jackson's family members, who were waiting for him outside the bodega, said that just isn't true. They said he was stabbed before he came out.
Now both the owner of the store and employee have been charged with 1st degree manslaughter, but the victim's daughter said it should be murder.
"They killed my dad and he was innocent and he was going to the store to mind his own business," Adams said.
Jackson passed out on the street in his daughter's arms, before passing away at a local hospital.
Ortiz and Vasquez are each being held on $125,000 bail.
