Family Demands Justice In Teenage Girl's Slaying In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Friends and loved ones were calling for justice this weekend, in the death of a teenage girl whose charred, naked body was found on Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn.
Family and friends of Shaniesha Forbes, 14, held a rally Sunday and blanketed the area where she was found, in an effort to bring whoever took her life to justice. Forbes' mother, Sandra Pryce, led the rally.
"In a serious effort to make sure that her beloved teen's murder doesn't fall too deep into the cold case files of the 60th Precinct detective squad that is investigating this case, Sandra Pryce is breaking her silence and holding this rally to get justice for her and her family so as to allow her daughter to finally rest in peace and possibly save the life of another teen," community advocate and co-rally organizer Tony Herbert said in a news release.
Police said the body was discovered just after 7 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6. The body was found at the south end of Gerritsen Avenue, police said.
"It's just a shame that they found this poor girl, you know, after all we've been through down here, and now we have more excitement," a neighbor said at the time. "And you know, it's just a terrible thing. I just feel bad for the families. And I just hope to God that they'll find out who did it."
The area was hard hit by Superstorm Sandy on Oct. 29, but police said the death was not storm-related, since the body would have been decomposed if the woman had been dead that long.
