Families Mourn US Troops Amid Swirl of Emotions
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The families of U.S. troops recently killed in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan face a swirl of emotions as they bury their dead while the nation celebrates the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden.
In Trenton, N.J., mourners sang "America the Beautiful'' as a soldier's flag-covered casket was carried out of a church Thursday at the same time President Obama capped a historic week by visiting Ground Zero.
Omar Vazquez was killed by an improvised explosive device on April 22 in Iraq. The 25-year-old first lieutenant had known since he was a little boy that he wanted to serve in the Army.
Family members say they are happy U.S. troops completed a key part of their mission by eliminating bin Laden. They just wish he was still alive to hear the news.
