Faced With Nightmare Super Bowl Scenario, Jets Fans Choose...
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- For fans of "the other" New York team, Super Bowl XLVI is about as bad as it gets.
Jets fans are faced with an agonizing choice on Super Sunday. On one side there's the hated AFC East rival New England Patriots, led by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
On the other side, the Giants, a Big Blue shadow cast over the Jets for decades.
So what's a Jets fan to do? Root for the Patriots to return the Lombardi Trophy to the AFC? Keep it local and go Giants?
When asked by WFAN to explain their temporary allegiance, Gang Green backers on Facebook predictably couldn't reach a consensus.
"Jets fans never root for the Pats," Jamie Bachman responded. "Go Giants!"
Kevin Heyman took the other side: "I know too many Giants fans who torture me as a Jet fan and I hope Brady tears them apart as much as it pains me to say it."
For Jets fan Chris DiNardo, the glass is always half-full.
"I will never root for the Pats," he wrote. "But I will laugh hard if the Giants lose... today is a win/win for Jet fans."
Not so much for Richard Marshall: "For the record, asking a Jets fan who they'd rather see win the Super Bowl would be like me asking you if you'd rather see your landlord or your boss win the lottery."
The results were just as varied -- and just as humorous -- on Twitter.
TMaster4K replied: "Patriots because if the Giants win, Jets fans wont hear the end of it until the Jets win Super Bowl (XLVII) next year."
"As a Jets fan, I'm not technically rooting for either team," tweeted Lsquare28. "I am rooting against the Pats, though! Big time. #BeatThePatriots."
"Easy no real Jet fan could ever root for the Pats they are our rivals," nicksinyc wrote. "It would be like a Yankee fan rooting for the Sox."
And a few Jets fans just plain refused to choose.
"Madonna," tweeted bleeDgreeen52, who apparently isn't feeling "True Blue" for anything but the halftime show.
Another big part of the Super Bowl experience was on section104's mind: "I'm rooting for @budlight to blow me away with an awesome commercial."
