Ex-Mets GM Jim Duquette Donates Kidney To Daughter Lindsey
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Former Mets general manager Jim Duquette has successfully donated one of his kidneys to his 10-year-old daughter, Lindsey, who has battled a serious disorder called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis for the past eight years.
Pam Duquette, the wife of Jim Duquette and mother of Lindsey, said Monday night that the transplanted kidney is "working great."
"Lindsey is good, recovering in the pediatric intensive care unit," she said, according to the New York Daily News. "She's in and out, and in lots of pain, (but) they were very successful surgeries."
Jim and Lindsey underwent a "combined nine hours of surgery" at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to transplant his right kidney into her abdomen, the Daily News reported. He "should be released in several days," while his daughter will likely remain hospitalized for "about two weeks," the paper added.
"Our dream is for Lindsey just to be a normal kid," said Pam Duquette.
Lindsey's kidneys had to be removed one year ago due to FSGS, which resulted in around 14 hours of dialysis treatment per day, the Daily News reported.
Jim Duquette, filling in for Josh Lewin, helped call Johan Santana's historic no-hitter Friday night on WFAN alongside longtime Mets play-by-play man Howie Rose.
He was in good spirits before the operation, and it surely had little to do with the no-no.
"Gettin' my butt kicked by Lindsey in the card game UNO," Jim, also a SiriusXM baseball analyst, tweeted Sunday. "An all time favorite, and I'm enjoying that way more than this liquid diet I'm on!"
