Ex-Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano Released From Prison
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A former mayor of Hoboken who was arrested after just three weeks in office has been released to a halfway house after serving 24 months in prison on corruption charges.
Peter Cammarano was released Wednesday from the Lewisburg Federal Prison Camp in Pennsylvania. A jail official told The Journal of Jersey City that Cammarano arrived in New York later that day.
The 34-year-old was the youngest mayor in Hoboken's history when he was elected in 2009. He resigned shortly after his arrest on corruption charges.
Cammarano was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison under a plea agreement. He admitted taking $25,000 from government informant Solomon Dwek, who posed as a crooked developer.
Cammarano was arrested in what became New Jersey's largest corruption bust.
