Ex-Employee Arrested In Bronx Domino's Pizza Fires
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials announced the arrest of a Bronx man accused of setting two fires at Domino's Pizza locations in the borough.
Fire Marshals from the FDNY Bureau of Fire Investigation arrested 24-year-old Jamal Thomas – a Domino's Assistant Manager trainee -- Friday. Thomas was carrying a loaded .357 revolver at the time of his arrest, officials said.
Authorities said Thomas was charged with multiple counts of arson, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon after he allegedly set fire to a Domino's Pizza on Boston Road on August 22 and another location on White Plains Road last Sunday.
No one was injured in either of the fires; However, in both cases, 12 units and 60 firefighters were needed to bring the flames under control.
An investigation by Fire Marshals revealed that Thomas was recently terminated for violating company security protocols. Fire Marshals said that Thomas had returned several times to different Domino's locations in uniform claiming to be a member of a secret Domino's unit that was gauging employee satisfaction before his arrest.
Officials said Thomas set several small fires through the story using cardboard and pizza boxes in each of the blazes.
Domino's estimates the damage to both locations could be over $1 million.
Thomas faces up to 25 year in prison if convicted.
