GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office says 19-year-old Malik Williams of Garfield turned himself in on an aggravated assault warrant and was being processed at Garfield police headquarters when he escaped by running out a rear door.
Williams was tracked to the garage of a private residence where he barricaded himself inside.
County prosecutor John Molinelli says officers managed to get inside and found Williams armed with tools from the garage. Two officers fired and struck Williams numerous times.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. and the suspect was pronounced dead Saturday evening.
Two officers were also taken to hospitals for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries, reports 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.
It remains unclear how the suspect managed to escape from police custody and the shooting is under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. No further details can be released at this time from the active investigation.
"From what I heard and what I have an understanding of, it wasn't no back and forth. It was actually a rapid one after the other. There were five (shots)," resident Ikeme Chukunta told CBS 2's Dave Carlin.
"Grew up here all my life. First time something like streets blocked off, tell me I got to park somewhere else. Thank God nothing happened to my family," said resident Steve Knezevic.
