There was panic in the emergency room at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital on Wednesday night. Cecilia Belle-Singleton was a patient inside when bullets started flying.

"This is the emergency room. You're supposed to be safe when you come to the ER. You're not supposed to sit here and be panicking when you come to the emergency room," Belle-Singleton said.

A Bronx-Lebanon spokesperson said the fight stemmed from an altercation that a male patient in the ER had outside the hospital earlier in the day. The theory is whoever he had a fight with or people that knew about the fight must have came back to retaliate.

"An individual in our waiting room pulled out a concealed weapon and our security officers immediately went into action to prevent more seriously problems from occurring," spokesperson Errol Schneer said.

"All you heard was the ruckus you heard the arguing. You heard the commotion. Next thing you know you heard pop pop, pop pop," a witness said.

Bullets ricocheted off the ceiling as patients and staff ran for cover. Police said two men, a  security guard and a nurse suffered superficial gunshot wounds. The suspects took off, but were quickly apprehended and were put in lineups outside the hospital for witnesses to identify.

A bullet grazed the guard in the leg. The nurse was struck in the shoulder.

Police said they were questioning two men and a woman, but so far there have been no arrests.
