Englewood Cliffs Schools Superintendent Relies On Business Experience
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The first-year superintendent of schools in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. has brought lessons he learned from the boardroom into the classroom.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, Robert Kravitz took over a failing school when he first became a principal in Fort Lee, N.J.

"And within a year and a half turned it around into a blue ribbon school," he said.
Kravitz said it was about creating the right environment.
"You need a personal relationship," he said. "It's like anything else in business -- you feel comfortable with the place you're going to, you frequent that place."
Kravitz's conclusions come directly from his experience running a business for 12 years.
"I consider myself a salesman," he said. "That's what I do, so I'm selling education every day to parents."
It is necessary for parents, teachers and administrators to be on the same page, Kravitz said.
Kravitz has written a book, A Blue Ribbon Story, about his experiences.
