Employment Forums Being Held For Tappan Zee Bridge Work
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - With high hopes of landing a job on the new Tappan Zee Bridge project, hundreds of people showed up at Rockland Community College on Wednesday.

Hiring is likely to ramp up over time starting next year.

The nearly $4 billion project is on schedule, but under the design-build approach, they're still at work on the specifics, which was a letdown for some.
WCBS 880 reporter Paul Murnane spoke with men who have been looking for work for between six and nine months.
Meanwhile, Carla Julian with Tappan Zee Constructors said employees can expect a deeper background and security experience.
"This piece of infrastructure is so critical to our area and could be targeted for terrorist activity. So they do very detailed background checks," she told Murnane on Wednesday. "We already have tons of applicants and it's going to be such a great project. I don't think it's going to deter people."
Given the size and complexity of this project, the early demand is expected to be for experienced administrative personnel.
But two dozen trades are expected to benefit and the local foodservice and hospitality as they feed and house the Tappan Zee work force.
