Empire State Building Getting New LED Lights With 16 Million Color Options
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An iconic spire of the Empire State Building has been a landmark since 1931 when President Herbert Hoover turned on the lights at the top of the building for the first time.
Now, those lights are getting a high-tech makeover.
The current system will be replaced by new computer-driven LED light fixtures.
The new energy efficient lights will have 16 million color options, as compared to the 10 used now.
Currently, it takes a team several hours to change the colors but with the new system, the color changes can be made instantly.
Officials hope to have the new lights installed by September.
