Eliot Spitzer's Gal Pal Lis Smith Leaves Bill De Blasio's Team
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The spokeswoman for Bill de Blasio's mayoral campaign and transition team is moving on.
"I'm so proud to have worked on @Billdeblasio's historic campaign and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does as mayor," Lis Smith tweeted on Thursday.
Smith, 31, made headlines recently when it was revealed she is romantically involved with former Gov. Eliot Spitzer.
The pair met when Smith served as his press secretary during his failed primary run for city comptroller.
Spitzer, 54, had to resign as governor in 2008 after it was revealed he was "Client 9″ in a high-priced call girl ring.
The Spitzer camp had released a statement, reading, "Lis Smith is a friend of Eliot's and he holds her in high regard."
Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio had responded to the news of Spitzer's relationship with Smith last month, saying it isn't a distraction to his transition to City Hall.
"I respect Lis as a professional but I also respect her right to privacy," said de Blasio. "I think I'm getting my message out just fine."
Smith will return to her old job with the Democratic Governors Association and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, 1010 WINS reported.
The move was reportedly planned all along.
Spitzer and his wife announced that they were splitting up two days after reports of his romantic relationship with Smith surfaced.
Eliot and Silda Spitzer have been married since 1987, and have three grown daughters.
