Eli On WFAN: Playoff Dream Is Dead, But Focus Remains On This Season
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants' playoff dream died on Sunday with a non-competitive loss to the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium.
After starting out 0-6 and then winning four consecutive games, Big Blue has lost two of three and seen its season officially go down in flames.
"Our playoff hopes are over, and that's disappointing," quarterback Eli Manning told WFAN host Mike Francesa in his weekly spot on Monday. "It's been a tough season. (We got) off to a very tough start. These last six weeks we were playing better football and won five out of six ... But obviously we just dug ourselves such a hole early on that any loss or setback was gonna make it tough."

Three meaningless -- at least as far as the postseason goes -- games remain on the schedule, but the leader of the team insists that next year won't begin this week. The 2013 season has to be completed before there can be any focus on getting back to the playoffs in 2014.
"We've gotta finish this year," Manning said. "No one knows what's gonna happen next year, who's gonna be around or not. That's the game of football. Things can change quickly, and no one's out of harm's way -- or however you look at it -- so I think everybody is playing for a job. We've gotta continue to try to play a football game well.
"...We've gotta make improvements and get more experience."
It's now been two years since New York made the playoffs. Does the face of the franchise expect to see wholesale changes to the roster this offseason?
"I try not to think about that," the two-time Super Bowl MVP told Francesa. "You never know what's gonna happen. My job is to go out there and try to lead this offense, and try to get wins and do my responsibilities and make sure everybody has a great understanding of what we're trying to accomplish ... If you start thinking about that and worrying about that, it's going to distract you."
The Giants will host the mighty Seahawks on Sunday before finishing their season against the Lions in Detroit and the Redskins at MetLife Stadium.
