Eli Manning 'A Little Nervous' With New Offense, New Coordinator
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Eli Manning feels strong after undergoing ankle surgery in April.
But following the worst statistical season of his career, the two-time Super Bowl MVP has plenty to get accustomed to in training camp.
With losing -- the Giants went 7-9 last year -- comes changes, and Big Blue comes into 2014 with three new starters on the offensive line and a new offensive coordinator in Ben McAdoo.
The 33-year-old admitted on Monday that it's going to take time to feel comfortable in a new offense.
"Yeah, it is different," Manning said. "You come into the season a little nervous; you just don't have (the same comfort). You have a good feel for it, but not to where I want it to be. That's with repetition and more plays. It's a different feeling this time of year than in previous years.
"We've still got a lot of work to do and a lot to improve on to get comfortable, myself with my teammates and everything that goes on with being successful in an offense. I know we've got a lot of work to do. But we're excited about that challenge."
This is the first season that Manning won't have Kevin Gilbride by his side. The former quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator announced his retirement in January.
But most importantly, the three-time Pro Bowler insists that he feels 100 percent physically and is ready to go.
"The ankle feels great, 100 percent," Manning said. "Don't feel it, don't think about it. It's not an issue. I'm excited; excited to be in another training camp, get the season kicked off and get back to work. It's an exciting time. This is what you look forward to."
