Elderly Man In Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run Accident In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An elderly man is in critical condition following a hit-and-run accident in Queens Tuesday morning, 1010 WINS reported.
Eyewitness John Attanasio said he saw the vehicle drive up onto the sidewalk, strike a pedestrian and smash into a UPS Store on Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens around 9 a.m.
"It went straight into the window, then he threw his car into drive and drove off," Attanasio said. "I don't think he knew that he hit a man."
Witnesses said it looked like the driver was trying to parallel park and may have mistaken the gas pedal for the brake.
Attanasio said an 84-year-old man who was walking on the sidewalk when he was struck was partially buried under bricks and broken glass and couldn't move his foot.

"He wasn't screaming or anything, he just kept saying, 'Help me, help me,'" Attanasio said. "He kept trying to move his legs so I told him not to move."
"The bone was completely shattered about an inch above the ankle," Attanasio said. "I could see the bone sticking out; I could see the foot hanging by the skin."
The injured pedestrian was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition, 1010 WINS reported.
Police said the 64-year-old driver was arrested about a block away from the scene.
No other injuries were reported. The UPS Store was closed at the time of the accident, CBS 2's Amy Dardashtian reported.
