Eerie Photo Shows Boy Standing Near Bomb Suspect Moments Before Boston Marathon Blast
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A chilling photo that has surfaced online appears to show a young boy standing near one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects before being killed in the April 15 blast.
Martin Richard, 8, was standing at the finish line watching the race with his family when one of two bombs went off, killing Richard, and critically injuring his mother and sister.
Also killed in the blast were 29-year-old Krystle Campbell of Medford, and Boston University Grad student Lu Lingzi. As many as 180 people were also injured in the attack.
On Friday, the two bombing suspects were identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., and his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. Tamerlan was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police Thursday night.
The two suspects are believed to be from Chechnya or near Chechnya, CBS News reports. They have been in the United States a little over a year, although CBS News understands from family members that at least one of the two came to the U.S. as a little boy. They are legal, permanent residents of the U.S.
A massive manhunt was underway Friday for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is described by Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis as "armed and dangerous."
"We believe this to be a terrorist," said Davis. "We believe this to be a man who's come here to kill people. We need to get him in custody."
The city of Boston and surrounding suburbs remain under lockdown as the search for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev continues.
