Police: Man Fatally Stabbed In The Bronx After Flashing Middle Finger At Men In Crashed Car
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a fatal stabbing in the Bronx started over an offensive hand gesture.
It happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Eastchester Place and Hollers Avenue in the Eastchester section.
A group of people were involved in a fender bender when police sources told CBS2 the victim, 25-year-old Billy Sierra, drove by and flashed his middle finger at them.
His alleged attacker, later identified as 47-year-old Juan Garcia, of the Bronx, was in the accident and pulled over on the side of the road, then saw the gesture and hopped into a vehicle with a few of his friends, catching up to the victim down the street, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.
That's when a fight broke out and police said Sierra was stabbed in the torso. He had allegedly admitted he was the one who extended his middle finger when he was stabbed, Doris reported.
Sierra and his friends tried to get to a hospital, but only made it a few blocks away, where the friends stopped to call for an ambulance.
"He was lying on the floor and they were trying to work on him, but he was gone already, I think," witness Art Mendola said. "They were all young people, probably driving around, trying to have a good time and it led to murder."
Sierra was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Garcia was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
