Regular Metro-North Service Resumes After Fire Under Tracks In East Harlem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metro-North resumed normal train service Friday after finishing repairs to part of an elevated track that was damaged in a fire in East Harlem.
Crews have installed temporary support columns to reopen all tracks on the Park Avenue Viaduct. Metro-North said customers should still anticipate some residual delays due to speed restrictions through the area.
"I would like to thank our customers for bearing with us during what has been a very challenging two-and-a-half-day period,'' Metro-North President Joseph Giulietti said in a statement.

Trains have been running on a limited Saturday schedule since the blaze broke out Tuesday at the Urban Garden Center underneath the tracks.
Metro-North said the blaze caused structural damage to a steel supporting column and three adjacent horizontal steel girders.
The fire has been ruled an accident. Investigators said it started when fuel was spilled on a hot generator at the garden center while it was being refilled.
The mayor's office said the company did not have the proper permits to store large amounts of flammable material in the area.
