East Harlem Elevator Mugger Strikes For The Eighth Time This Week
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A serial mugger in East Harlem has struck again.
A 57-year-old man was attacked on Saturday morning, according to investigators, he was the mugger's eighth victim. Police have released surveillance video of the suspect.
The mugging spree began on January 17, a source close to law enforcement told 1010 WINS that Asians may be targeted because many people believe that they carry large amounts of cash.
Four of the victims have been women, the victims have ranged in age from 25 to the mid 60s. The NYPD's hate crimes unit is investigating the muggings, although they have not been classified as hate crimes.
The attacks have all occurred in elevators and the victims have all been Asian. The suspect has been described as being between 25 and 35 years old, Hispanic, about 6-ft tall and weighs 200-240lbs.
