DUMBO Wi-Fi, Free Wireless Internet Access, Unveiled In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A new Wi-Fi network has been unveiled in Brooklyn.
It's designed to provide free wireless access to the Internet between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. It's named DUMBO Wi-Fi, reflecting the name of the neighborhood.
The neighborhood improvement district teamed with a developer, Two Trees Management Company (who is footing the bill), to have equipment installed by a nonprofit group, NYCwireless.
"We are now the first neighborhood in New York City where you can step outside and log on to the internet free of charge, roam freely. We're New York City's first wireless neighborhood," said Tucker Reed of Two Trees Managament.

Borough President Marty Markowitz is grateful, saying, "For younger people that are very much part of the internet generation, that are on their tablets and iPads, and e-readers and computers, this is the life."
80 high-tech firms are now located in DUMBO.
