Police: 1 Dead, 1 Charged With DUI After Fiery Truck Crash On I-95
WESTPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A driver has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence during a fiery fatal crash on the I-95 in Connecticut.
According to officials, a sedan driving in the center lane on the I-95 near Westport collided with a tractor-trailer driving in the the right lane. The tractor-trailer swerved, crashed into a metal guardrail and flipped over onto the driver side.
The tractor-trailer then proceeded to strike a light pole and a tree before catching fire, police said.
The sedan swerved to the right and struck a concrete barrier on the threshold of the Saugatuck Bridge.
Westport Fire Department officials pronounced the tractor-trailer driver dead on the scene.
The driver of the sedan had no injuries, police said. The driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence and later released on $10,000 bond.
The crash, which occurred at around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, closed down the highway for hours. Officials reported the accident cleared at around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
The identities of the drivers were not immediately known.
