Federal agents swept through Marble Hill Wednesday arresting members of the Trinitarios, a violent gang officials say sold drugs and guns and intimidated neighborhood residents to protect their turf.
NYPD Captain Lorenzo Johnson said authorities recovered nine handguns, two rifles, a shotgun and $25,000 in drugs during the morning raids.
"We believe we put a big dent in the Trinitario gang," said Johnson. "From the upper echelon to the lower leaders."
Eight more guns were seized during undercover buys over the last year.
Officials say 50 members have been indicted and so far, 38 have been arrested. Twenty-two search warrants were executed in locations in Manhattan and the Bronx.
The gang has its roots in the prison system and fed off the drug trade out on the street.
